Secure core knowledge
Key concepts and vocabulary are taught for understanding, not short-term memorisation.
Years 7-9
Focused subject teaching that closes gaps, strengthens independent study and builds the knowledge students will carry into GCSE.
The short answer
KS3 is where subjects become more specialised and earlier gaps begin to have a larger effect. Algebra depends on secure number work; later science depends on confident use of units, graphs and proportional reasoning; analytical writing depends on clear reading and sentence control.
One-to-one tutoring can isolate the exact point at which understanding breaks down. The tutor then teaches that prerequisite, reconnects it to current school work and helps the student practise independently.
What the plan includes
Key concepts and vocabulary are taught for understanding, not short-term memorisation.
Students learn how to choose a method, show reasoning and check whether an answer makes sense.
Retrieval, organised notes, deliberate practice and reflection become part of the lesson routine.
Year 9 work can begin to reflect the student's likely subjects and exam-board pathway.
How support is planned
A KS3 plan can follow the student's school sequence while still repairing missing knowledge. This prevents tutoring from becoming a second disconnected curriculum. The assigned plan is adjusted to the learner's year, subject and school context.
When a GCSE board is already known in Year 9, the administrator can prioritise that board's curriculum. Tutors can tailor the assigned copy for the individual student without changing the shared curriculum used by anyone else.
A purposeful lesson
The tutor identifies the idea being taught and the prerequisite knowledge it needs.
Explanations and examples target the reason an error occurs, not just the final answer.
The student works through questions that vary the representation or level of support.
Curriculum progress shows what is developing and what still needs practice.

KS3 normally covers Years 7, 8 and 9. Some schools organise their curriculum differently, so the plan also considers the student's actual school content.
The main KS3 offer covers mathematics, English and science. Availability for a specific arrangement is confirmed during tutor matching.
Yes. Current school work can guide lesson priorities while the tutor also addresses any prerequisite gaps.
There is no need to turn all KS3 work into exam drilling. In Year 9, the plan can progressively align to selected GCSE subjects and the confirmed exam board.
The tutor updates the student's assigned curriculum and teaching notes. Families can see the relevant progress information and published reports in their portal.
